Lafayette uses PKs, defense to sweep Oxford

Oxford and Lafayette met at Bobby Holcomb on Field Tuesday night, but it was not for a football rematch. This installment of the cross-town rivalry happened on the pitch between the high school boys and girls soccer teams.  In the boys game, it looked as if Oxford would coast to an easy win over Lafayette, leading 3-0 with less than 10 minutes remaining. But Lafayette didn’t fade into the cold night quietly and fired off three quick goals of its own to knot the game at 3, sending it to an overtime shootout. After two rounds of penalty kicks, the Commodores emerged with a 4-3 victory. (December 10, 2014, Page 1B)

OHS soccer sweeps Pontotoc in home opener

Oxford’s boys soccer team isn’t having much trouble finding the back of the net these days. The Chargers scored less than eight minutes in, added five more along the way and cruised to a 6-0 win over Pontotoc on Monday afternoon in their home opener at Bobby Holcomb Field. The Chargers (4-2) have won their last three matches by a combined 18-0. The Lady Chargers defeated Pontotoc 3-0 earlier in the day. (November 25, 2014, Page 6)
