‘Dores pitch their way into 4A quarters
It took a veteran pitching performance from senior Luke Stanley for a young Lafayette Commodores team to blank Amory 3-0 on Thursday.
The next day, Lafayette turned the ball over to right-hander Eli Murphree and the freshman responded.
Murphree allowed one run over six innings before turning the ball over to Stanley to close out the 2-1 victory at W.V. Brewer Field.
With the win, the Commodores (18-10 overall) advance to the quarterfinals of the MHSAA Class 4A playoffs to face Region 2-4A foe New Albany. (April 30, 2012, Page 6)

Eli Murphree throws Senatobia a curve
Lafayette’s Eli Murphree picked a great time to find his curveball. Murphree’s best outing on the mound of the year not only ended a three-game losing streak, but Monday night’s 3-1 win over Senatobia also gave the Commodores some much needed momentum heading into the stretch run of the Division 2-4A schedule.
Murphree went the distance on the mound for the Commodores (7-10 overall, 2-3 in 2-4A) and limited the Warriors to five hits thanks in large part to the way he threw his curveball compared to the other times he has pitched. (April 3, 2012, Page 8)
