Patriots rally to top Commodores

Tuesday evening’s loss was a difficult one to swallow for the Lafayette Commodores.

Despite leading for the majority of the game, Lafayette allowed Marshall Academy to rally in the sixth inning and eventually claim a 5-3 victory on Day 2 of the Oxford Spring Break Tournament at Edwin Moak Field.

Chargers stay tough, take Classic

Oxford baseball coach Chris Baughman held a meeting with his team Wednesday about facing adversity and staying mentally tough.

It didn’t take long for the meeting to be put to the test, as the Chargers had to respond to an early deficit in order to defeat Lafayette 6-5 Friday night at Edwin Moak Field in the Crosstown Classic. (more…) (March 12, 2012, Page 3B)

LHS seeing improvement; OHS adapting to new bats

Thursday’s crosstown doubleheader between Oxford and Lafayette’s baseball teams provided plenty of positives and learning experiences for the two squads involved.

Plenty of new faces at LHS on Tuesday

Tuesday proved to be a busy evening at Lafayette High School.

Not only were each of the five baseball and softball teams filled with underclassmen looking to make their mark and get their shot at starting, but the Water Valley and Lafayette softball teams were also under the direction of new head coaches in Casey Clouse and Katie Moore respectively. Mills, Lewis take part in Crossroads All-Star Game

Lafayette infielder Josh Mills and head coach Greg Lewis took part in Saturday’s Crossroads Diamond Club All-Star game played at Pearl’s Trustmark Park. Mills was a member of the North squad in the 4-5-6A game that the South won 12-11. Mills went 0-for-2 with a walk at the plate and also recorded a stolen base. Lewis, who served as a co-head coach with Lewisburg’s Rusty Cagle, said Mills played third base during his time in the field and that the overall experience was a good one. Lewis added he liked being around the players that were headed to the next level to play college ball. (June 6, 2011, Page 7)

LHS baseball camp in June

Lafayette High baseball coach Greg Lewis and his players will be holding a summer camp June 1-3 at W.V. Brewer Field.  The camp will run daily from 9-11:30 a.m. Registration for the camp will be held June 1 at 8 a.m. Cost is $40. Mills inks to play for NEMCC Tigers

The Diamond Commodores’ stellar season may have come as a surprise to some, but anyone who watched Lafayette play this season won’t be surprised by the fact that senior Josh Mills will be playing at the next level.

Robbins pitches Vikings into next round

ECRU — Even on a night where some said he didn’t have his best stuff and was pitching on short rest, North Pontotoc left-hander Kyle Robbins was able to do what he wanted against the Lafayette Commodores in Monday’s elimination game. (May 3, 2011, Page 6)

Grey leads LHS baseball past Byhalia

Lafayette senior pitcher Cody Grey punctuated his standout season with a shutout over Byhalia on Tuesday night.

Grey improved to 7-0 on the year as the Commodores rolled past the Indians, 12-0 in five innings, at W.V. Brewer Field. Grey logged three innings of work and finished with four strikeouts and no hits. (more…) (April 20, 2011, Page 2B)

Lafayette reclaims first place with walk-off hit

Lafayette’s John Jeffrey Nelson couldn’t have picked a better time for his first high school walk-off hit than Thursday night.
