Bevy of athletes prepare for MHSAA state meet
Athletes from Oxford, Lafayette and Water Valley will be taking part in the MHSAA state track meets this weekend. The Class 1A, 3A and 5A meets will be held Saturday at Pearl. The 2A, 4A and 6A meets will be held Monday at PHS. Saturday’s meets begins with field events at 10 a.m. Monday’s meets begins at 11 a.m.
Oxford teams win Region 1-5A titles
Region 1-5A track titles were awarded to both the Oxford Chargers and Lady Chargers Monday night at Bobby Holcomb Field. Oxford dominates 2-5A meet
“Dominant.” That’s what the Oxford Chargers and Lady Chargers were in the Division 2-5A track meet held Friday at Bobby Holcomb Field. Both teams finished first in the annual meet, with the Chargers scoring 122 points, almost double second-place finisher West Point with 64. Bush pleased with where the Chargers are heading into 2-5A meet
The high school track season is about to really get interesting, starting with today’s Division 2-5A meet. The annual meet will be held at Oxford High’s Bobby Holcomb Field and Chris Bush, the head coach of the Chargers, likes how his team looks heading into the first of three major meets leading up to qualifying for the state meet.
OHS dominates EAGLE Invitational
Oxford’s track teams opened the 2013 season with a bang as both squads won Saturday’s Oxford EAGLE Invitational meet held at Bobby Holcomb Field. The Chargers more than doubled up second-place finisher West Bolivar (220-98) to win first place, while the Lady Chargers finished with 157 points, 25 more than second-place finisher Independence. Chargers can’t contain Lane in loss
WEST POINT — One quarter, one important quarter, is all that separated the Oxford Chargers and West Point Green Wave at McCallister Field Friday night. Bailey tackles Jaguars to earn POW honor
The Blue Devils took care of business Friday, routing the visiting J.Z. George Jaguars 61-6.
Leading Water Valley’s defensive unit was senior Q. Bailey, who racked up 15 tackles in the first half before being pulled for reserves.
Bailey’s 15 tackles in just two quarters was a rare feat that veteran defensive coordinator Richard Russo has never seen. (September 25, 2012, Page 7)
Chargers open ‘second season’ 1-0
OLIVE BRANCH — The Chargers were all smiles Friday night following their 40-27 victory at Region 1-5A foe Center Hill.
