Mavericks rally to end Oxford’s season

MADISON – For the second straight year, Oxford’s postseason stay was a short one. Germantown rallied from an early deficit to score a trio of unanswered goals to defeat the Chargers 3-1 in the opening match of the MHSAA Class 5A playoffs for both teams Tuesday night, making it back-to-back first-round exits for Oxford. (January 28, 2015, Page 2B)

Chargers rout West Point for share of 2-5A title

Not even Oxford’s most productive night of offense could separate the top two teams in Division 2-5A boys soccer standings. The Chargers wrapped up division play with little resistance Friday, finding the back of the net early and often in a 14-0 rout of West Point on Senior Night at Bobby Holcomb Field to secure a share of the division title with Saltillo. (January 18, 2015, Page 1B, 4B)

Oxford boys win pair on final day

The Oxford boys soccer team’s patience was tested Saturday. The Chargers were less than 24 hours removed from a 2-2 draw against Olive Branch in their opening match of the Oxford Showcase and found themselves in a scoreless deadlock deep into the second half despite numerous scoring chances against New Hope at FNC Park. But Oxford finally broke through on Tristan Orman’s penalty kick for the match’s only goal, giving the Chargers their first win of the tournament. Chargers’ Joyce signs on with Jones JC soccer

Gabrielle Joyce is taking her soccer game to the next level. Oxford’s senior defender has a scholarship with Jones County Junior College. Joyce inked with the Bobcats on Dec. 1 but celebrated with family members, coaches and teammates in a ceremony at the OHS library Wednesday. (December 18, 2014, Page 6)

Lafayette’s Hamann makes history

CLINTON — The Lafayette girls, sparked by individual gold medalist Peyton Hamann and two others in the top six performers, claimed third place in the MHSAA Class 4A state cross-country meet held Saturday at Mississippi College’s Choctaw Trails.

OHS fares well at Pontotoc Invitational

The Oxford cross-country teams fared well at this weekend’s Pontotoc Invitational, finishing second out of 13 squads. Tristan Orman led the boys with a seventh-place finish with a time of 17 minutes, 39 seconds, while Emily Hankins paced the Lady Chargers with a 16:31 mark that was good enough for sixth.
