Commodores secure region title with 27-0 win

For the Lafayette Commodores, it’s not about how you start but how you finish. They are finishing strong and Friday, in front of the home crowd on Senior Night, the Commodores (6-4 overall, 4-0 Region 2-4A) shut out Senatobia (6-3, 2-2) 27-0 to clinch their first 2-4A title since the 2011 season, the last time they won the MHSAA state championship (October 26, 2014, Page 5B)

Spotlight: Jones’ game changes, evolves for Commodores

This season has been a little different for Quin Jones. In more ways than one. Lafayette’s junior linebacker can still usually be found somewhere near the ball shortly after it’s snapped, he’s just arriving from a different spot on the field. NEW ALBANY — Lafayette coach Eric Robertson said his team may have been looking ahead. Tyrell Price admitted it was difficult not to. It wasn’t always pretty, but the Commodores remained unbeaten in Region 2-4A play with a 31-21 victory at New Albany on Friday night. LHS, WVHS searching for region wins

Oxford has the night off after playing Thursday in Olive Branch, but the two remaining area high school teams will tee it up tonight with Lafayette looking to continue its winning ways while Water Valley will try to rebound from a tough region-opening loss. Lafayette will host Tunica Rosa-Fort with the right to remain 2-0 in Region 2-4A on the line for both schools.
