WVHS falls to Wildcats in heartbreaker
CALHOUN CITY —The Water Valley defense did its best to leave Class 2A Calhoun City’s “Boneyard” with a victory Friday, holding athletic QB J.R. Jennings and the Wildcats in check for most of the night, but in the end it wasn’t enough as the Blue Devils fell 10-7. (more…) (September 4, 2010)
Wrecking Crew’s swagger tough to match
During Water Valley’s preseason game against Vardaman, a message was sent to opposing teams — look out.
To say the Blue Devils have a mean streak might be an understatement; junior cornerback Chris Conard made that blatantly clear during Water Valley’s preseason game against Vardaman when he came downhill on a kickoff and knocked out a 270-pound player, literally.
It’s that kind of take-no-prisoners attitude that is expected to be on display all season. (August 27, 2010, Page 6A)

WATER VALLEY — The Blue Devils’ game didn’t quite go like head coach Brad Embry drew it up, but in the end a win is a win. Buckley’s improvement has helped himself, WVHS
Three years ago when Brad Embry and the current coaching staff arrived in Water Valley, Eric Buckley struggled to find a spot in the starting lineup.
Buckley, then a sophomore, had received considerable playing time the year before, but once the coaching change occurred it was hard for him to master the new philosophy.
Since then, however, Buckley worked hard to get back on the field and entering this season, the senior has solidified his spot as Water Valley’s starting strong safety. (July 13, 2010, Page 6A)
Bounds to receive plenty of help on offense
Helping to make freshman quarterback E.J. Bounds’ life a lot easier this season will be the likes of Desmond Hervey and Chris Conard at receiver.
Both juniors are expected to step up on offense and assume larger roles this season.
Last season, Hervey caught just two passes for six yards, while Conard hauled in five for 98 yards and three scores.
But if this past weekend is any indication of how the season will play out, both Hervey and Conard could factor greatly into the team’s passing attack. (July 12, 2010, Page 7)
