Manning, Glenn say hire not predetermined

Was Hugh Freeze a predetermined hire?

In large part because of his ties to Ole Miss and the Memphis area, the recent hire of Hugh Freeze as Ole Miss’ next football coach was met with an ample amount of skepticism.

Mike Glenn and Archie Manning, co-chairs of Ole Miss’ coaching search committee, said during Monday’s teleconference that they went through the proper channels during the interview process.

According to the co-chairs, Freeze just stood out above the rest of the field. Plain and simple. (December 6, 2011, Page 6)

Told ya so

OXFORD TOWN – Oxford Town Sports Columnist Steven Godfrey is disgusted. Frankly, we’re all entitled to be a little disappointed but he actually called it last week. He’s got a list of folks who are in need of firing in a bad way after last week’s Rebel home opener bust against BYU. SPOILER ALERT — No one is bulletproof. He’s even got Jack Black included in his list. Check out Page 10 in this week’s issue of Oxford Town to see who else is outta here in Godfrey land. (September 8, 2011, Page 10)

Rebel offense having to cope without RBs

For at least a couple of days, Ole Miss’ quarterback battle has taken a back seat thanks to the Rebels getting a little roughed up by Brigham Young.

Against the Cougars, Ole Miss’ depth at running back took a significant hit when All-Southeastern Conference senior Brandon Bolden and fellow veteran Enrique Davis went down with leg injuries.

During his weekly press conference Monday, Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt addressed both injuries. (September 6, 2011, Page 6)

Status of RBs Bolden, Davis still up in the air

Saturday’s loss could have lingering affects for the Ole Miss Rebels.

As if losing its season opener to BYU wasn’t bad enough, Ole Miss might be without its top two running backs for an extended period of time.

During his weekly teleconference on Sunday, Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt updated the status of seniors Brandon Bolden and Enrique Davis, both of whom saw limited playing time after being injured against the Cougars. (September 5, 2011, Page 1B)
