Pearson makes all the plays and more for OHS

Jessica Pearson always had a knack of turning nothing into something.

As the setter on Oxford’s volleyball team, it wasn’t uncommon to see Pearson not only set up a teammate for the kill when the Lady Chargers’ passing was on point, but also go sprawling out of bounds in an attempt to keep the play alive. (more…) (October 25, 2012, Page 1B)

Oxford ends season on high note

The 2012 season didn’t go the way Oxford had hoped, but Thursday night’s season finale provided at least a little solace for the home team.

Looking to end the season on a high note, the Lady Chargers earned a convincing 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-18) victory over Corinth at the OHS gym. (September 28, 2012, Page 7A)

OHS unable to find rally magic again

The Oxford High volleyball team staged one of the program’s more impressive comebacks in recent years Tuesday, rallying from an early deficit to defeat Hernando in five sets.

The Lady Chargers were unable to replicate that magic Thursday against Lewisburg. (more…) (August 24, 2012, Page 7A)

OHS claims exciting win

The Oxford volleyball team (8-4 overall) won in exciting fashion Tuesday, claiming a 3-2 (6-25, 25-17, 19-25, 26-24, 15-8) win at Hernando. (more…) (August 22, 2012, Page 7)

Oxford rallies to top Senatobia

It wasn’t pretty, but the Lady Chargers volleyball team rallied from an early deficit to defeat Senatobia 3-2 (18-25, 24-26, 25-10, 25-19, 15-12) on Tuesday.

Emily Mims had a team-high 12 kills, while Anna Katherine Kessinger and Sara Mims each contributed 11 kills to the cause.  Setter Jessica Pearson also led OHS with 40 assists. Next up for Oxford is a crosstown showdown at Lafayette on Thursday starting with a junior varsity match at 4 p.m. (August 15, 2012, Page 7)

Lady Chargers claim home opener

The Lady Chargers volleyball squad got Oxford’s 2012-13 school year off to a good start Tuesday by sweeping the visiting Ripley Lady Tigers 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-14) at the OHS gym.

The performance was far from perfect, but for an OHS squad that returns just four members from the 2011 varsity squad, a win is a win. (August 8, 2012, Page 7)

Oxford earns home sweep of Clarksdale

Tara Ross proposed a deal her volleyball players couldn’t refuse: Win Thursday’s match against Clarksdale in three straight sets and there will be no practice on Friday.

The Lady Chargers responded to the wager. After cruising through the first two sets, Oxford had to rally to claim the third set and the match 3-0 (25-6, 25-7, 25-23). (September 23, 2011, Page 6A)

Hernando blanks Oxford in volleyball

Hernando made short work of the Oxford Lady Chargers on Tuesday with a 3-0 win. Hernando defeated Oxford 25-16, 25-10, 25-18. Ivory Alexander had eight kills to lead OHS, while Emily Mims had seven kills. Mims led the team with three aces. Emily Meadows had the most digs (five) on the squad.

Oxford returns to action Thursday at Aberdeen. (August 24, 2011, Page 9)

OHS rides fast starts to crosstown sweep

Quick starts in all three matches by Oxford, coupled with Lafayette’s inability to get into a groove until it was too late, led to the Lady Chargers claiming a 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-23) victory in the Crosstown Classic’s volleyball edition at the OHS gym on Thursday.

The match marked the first time in three seasons that the Lady Chargers have come away with the crosstown victory.

In each of the three games Oxford was able to jump out to a 6-1 lead. (August 19, 2011, Page 9A)
