Running backs lead way in POW voting

Oxford improved to 6-0 overall on the season Friday night in large part to the running of sophomore Kenzie Phillips. The 5-foot-10, 190-pounder, who is called a “war daddy” by coach Johnny Hill, finished with 217 yards and two touchdowns in the victory. (October 8, 2013, Page 6)

CHARLESTON — For the first time this season, the Water Valley Blue Devils will have to rebound from some adversity. WINONA — Water Valley coach Brad Embry admitted he was concerned about his team playing two games in five days.

WVHS edges Bruce in another nailbiter

BRUCE — The concession stands may want to stack up on Pepto-Bismol, or at least TUMS and Rolaids, to help calm the nervous stomachs when Water Valley and Bruce meet again.

Friday’s backyard rivalry with the Blue Devils and Trojans played out much the same as the previous two contests between the squads with the game undecided until the final minutes of the fourth quarter.
