Mayor to OK some Sunday sales
On Tuesday at the Board of Aldermen, a 4-3 vote that was approved two weeks ago will not be vetoed by the Mayor although he promises to veto an upcoming vote on off-premise sales. A public hearing will be held Tuesday on the off-premise sales. (December 20, 2010, Page 1)
Board OKs Sunday alcohol sales
While the Board of Aldermen approved Sunday alcohol sales for on-premise permit holders on Tuesday, supporters should wait to pop the cork to celebrate until Mayor Pat Patterson decides if he will veto the issue. If he does not, than the city must wait for state approval. The board also heard the first reading of an ordinance amendment allowing Sunday off-premise sales from noon to 6 p.m. which means beer and light wine could be sold at convenience stores. Alcohol on Sunday?
BREAKING NEWS — The Board of Aldermen approved to form a committee to research the possibility of future Sunday sales including a change in laws and restrictions to redefine restaurants and bars as well as other needed ordinances. The motion carried 4-3.
The Board of Aldermen denied 6-1 to request Sunday Alcohol Sales from the Alcoholic Beverage Control on 4th of July and home football weekends for this year with the restaurants being open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Alderman-at-large John Morgan voted for the proposal.
