Liggins’ big-play day earns him P.O.W honors
The biggest game of Lafayette’s non-region schedule proved to be the perfect time for senior quarterback Jeremy Liggins to show his superior running skills. In a game where every Commodore stepped up and did their part to earn a win over Evangel Christian Academy (Shreveport, La.), it was Liggins who saved his best performance of the 2011 campaign at just the right time.
Liggins was virtually unstoppable running the ball in the contest as he piled up 126 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries. He also threw the ball well and finished with 80 yards and a touchdown. It was his clutch performance in arguably the program’s biggest regular season contest that made Liggins this week’s Player of the Week. (more…) (September 13, 2011, Page 7)
WVHS Blue Devils set up Camp in Bruce
BRUCE — Water Valley sophomore wide receiver Cole Camp will be getting a few more high-fives around town this week.
Two seasons ago Camp was a team manager for the Blue Devils. This year though, he has emerged as a playmaker and it showed Friday night in his 84-yard game-winning touchdown catch to knock off Bruce 20-19 at Trojan Field. (more…) (September 12, 2011, Page 5B)

Wildcats crash Water Valley’s Homecoming
WATER VALLEY — After throttling their opponents to the tune of 105-0 in their first two games of the season, the Water Valley Blue Devils were humbled Friday, losing to Calhoun City 16-14 at Bobby Clark field.
Following the loss, Water Valley head coach Brad Embry said his team it needed to regroup quickly and not dwell on the loss. (September 5, 2011, Page 4B)
Oxford’s Dean earns Player of Week honor
A win is what the Oxford Chargers needed to garner last Friday night at Charleston. After losing a tough opener to Grenada on the road, the Chargers could ill afford another setback heading into this week’s Crosstown Classic at Lafayette.
