Bevy of athletes prepare for MHSAA state meet

Athletes from Oxford, Lafayette and Water Valley will be taking part in the MHSAA state track meets this weekend. The Class 1A, 3A and 5A meets will be held Saturday at Pearl. The 2A, 4A and 6A meets will be held Monday at PHS. Saturday’s meets begins with field events at 10 a.m. Monday’s meets begins at 11 a.m.

Blue Devil athletes capture Division 2-3A crown

Water Valley’s Blue Devils head into Saturday’s regional meet at Oxford as the Division 2-3A track champions. The Blue Devils won the meet held at Tishomingo County this past week by garnering 124 points, more than 40 points more than second-place finisher Mooreville.

Trojans end Blue Devils’ playoff run

MOOREVILLE — The Water Valley boys’ historic run in the Class 3A MHSAA North Half playoffs came to an end on Thursday night at Mooreville gymnasium.

Devils feeling good heading into playoffs

Water Valley heads into a third meeting with Charleston on Tuesday playing its best basketball of the season, coach John Sherman said. The Blue Devils improved to 11-13 on the year Friday with a  54-33 win over Nettleton in the Division 2-3A Tournament. The victory earned the Blue Devils the No. 3 seed out of the division and a trip to play Charleston, a team they have defeated twice this year.

Late call dooms Devils against AHS

WATER VALLEY — Thursday night’s Division 2-3A Tournament game between the Water Valley Blue Devils and Aberdeen Bulldogs turned in the matter of seconds. A two-possession contest, one in which the Blue Devils were giving great effort in, was turned when Aberdeen benefited from a double technical call against Water Valley’s L.J. Hawkins.
