Organizers gear up for Relay for Life

The Relay of Life for Oxford-Lafayette County is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. May 6 in front of J.C. Penney’s department store on West Jackson Avenue in the old Oxford Mall parking lot. So far, the event has raised close to $50,000 in donations. (April 22, 2011, Page 1A)

Rain won’t delay Relay

The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life event is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. Friday with a dinner honoring cancer survivors in the Oxford High School cafeteria. Original plans are to then move the Relay events to the OHS football field. However, a 70-percent chance of rain Friday night could force organizers to move the event to the Oxford-University United Methodist Church. (April 28, 2010, Page 1)

UM takes on MSU to help cure cancer

The rivalry between the University of Mississippi and Mississippi State University is in full swing this month, although this time the two universities won’t be competing for an Egg Bowl trophy. Instead, they will be competing to see who can raise the most money to help cure cancer. This year there will be two Relay for Life events: One for the university on April 9, and a community event is set for April 30. (March 9, 2010, Page 1)
