Oxford earns sweep of Senatobia
Oxford fans at the OHS gym on Tuesday saw two very different games from the Chargers and Lady Chargers against Senatobia.
While both squads won, it was the boys that claimed a run-away 74-57 victory, while the girls had to hold on and knock down free throws at the end to claim a 48-41 win. (November 17, 2010, Page 6)
Oxford teams sweep Potts Camp
A team-first attitude for the Oxford Lady Chargers and Chargers proved to be the difference in two wins over Potts Camp in the season openers for both teams Monday night in the OHS gym.
Oxford’s girls opened the season with a one-sided 78-36 win over the Lady Cardinals, while the Chargers followed the girls lead in the nightcap as they rolled to a 90-49 win. (November 9, 2010, Page 8)
Chargers working with less experience this year
Experience is something Oxford High boys basketball coach Drew Tyler has always had working for him during his previous 13 years. No matter how many players graduated from the super successful program, Tyler was always able to reload and move forward.
But for the first time in recent memory, Tyler will rely on several inexperienced players to win games on the court. Oxford, which opens its season Monday at home against Potts Camp, has four seniors and six juniors listed on its roster, but only three have played substantial varsity minutes, a fact that makes Tyler call the 2010-11 season more of a rebuilding season than one where he reloads. Parallel parking becoming a lost art?
Very few Drivers’ Ed instructors teach parallel parking outside the classroom and inside the car any more and it’s long been dropped as the traditional ending to a driver’s road test. That’s obvious, Editor Don Whitten writes, when you watch drivers try to get in and out of parallel parking spots in and around Oxford. (September 3, 2010, Page 4A)
Oxford’s Blake does it all as Player of the Year
Describing what Brandon Blake meant to the Oxford Chargers on the hardwood this season can’t be accomplished in just a word or small phrase. His value to coach Drew Tyler and his teammates was all encompassing. His role always seemed to change from game to game. From being the team’s leading scorer to the team’s leading rebounder to leading the Chargers in assists, he simply did it all when called upon. (April 14, 2010, Page 1B)

Oxford’s Jarvis Shaw is taking his point guard skills east to Itawamba Community College. Shaw signed a scholarship offer from the Indians and coach Marti Cooper Thursday to help complement a team that is very guard oriented and likes to get up and down the court. (April 9, 2010, Page 6A)
Oxford’s Blake ready for next step
A chance to play college basketball the first year out of Oxford High at a small and inviting campus turned out to be too much of an opportunity for Brandon Blake to turn down. The OHS standout guard signed a scholarship ofer to play for NAIA Spring Hill today, ending a recruitment that really started to heat up towards the end of his senior season. OXFORD ATHLETICS — She may not have hit any game-winning home runs, or thrown a last second touchdown strike, but Sarah Lacy has played an important role with Oxford High athletics over the years. (February 25, 2010, Page 6)
Tyler’s coaching job this season his best
OXFORD CHARGERS HOOPS — Although the Oxford Chargers may not have had the overall talent they’ve had in the past, they were still able to rack up 17 wins this season. This season’s success was about more than just wins and losses for the Chargers and coach Drew Tyler. (February 17, 2010, Page 6)
Titans’ size too much for Chargers in Loss
OXFORD CHARGERS HOOPS — Oxford’s run at a state title fell short on Tuesday when the Chargers were upeneded by Ridgeland on the road 69-42. Even with the lopsided loss, coach Drew Tyler said he was proud of what his team accomplished this season. (February 17, 2010, Page 6)
