Freeze happy Greer finds way onto scoresheet
Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze lit up during his post game press conference when asked about H.R. Greer’s touchdown catch.
The 3-yard pass and catch from quarterback Bo Wallace marked just his second career touchdown and capped Ole Miss’ scoring for the night with 11:18 remaining in the game.
After coming out of the backfield, Greer caught Wallace’s pass and was able to beat UTEP’s defenders and dive over the front right pylon of the end zone for the touchdown. (September 10, 2012, Page 1B)

Freeze, Rebels come through in 2012 debut
Charles Sawyer, Ole Miss’ junior rover and leader in the secondary, knew Saturday was a big day for first-year head coach Hugh Freeze before the team got off the bus and started filing through the Walk of Champions in the Grove. Sawyer, who just returned to the practice field last week in an attempt to play against Central Arkansas in the opener, said Freeze really wanted to win because of his affection for Ole Miss. QB Wallace nips jitters, Central Arkansas secondary
Bo Wallace, Ole Miss’ newest starting quarterback, said early last week he was anxious for his first chance to lead Hugh Freeze’s new-look offense. Prior to Saturday’s season opener against Central Arkansas, Wallace said he actually wasn’t nervous like he thought he might be.
That unexpected coolness showed in Wallace’s Rebel debut as the sophomore completed 20 of 24 passes for 264 yards and two touchdowns. He also dazzled on runs with 13 carries for 82 yards, including a 25-yard touchdown run that capped Ole Miss’ opening drive. (September 3, 2012, Page 1B)

Offense shows improvement in latest scrimmage
Ole Miss’ final scrimmage before the season opener Sept. 1 featured an improved offensive attack led by the running of freshmen backs I’Tavius Mathers and Jaylen Walton Saturday at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. First-year coach Hugh Freeze said following the annual Meet the Rebels scrimmage that Mathers, who finished with 100 yards and three touchdowns on 13 carries, and Walton, who had 42 yards on eight carries, had been steady, if not spectacular, during summer camp. Rebels continue to struggle offensively
Ole Miss’ first day in full pads proved to be another strong day for the defense as the Rebels continued to struggled with turnovers. Whether it was interceptions or miscues on snaps out of the shotgun, first-year coach Hugh Freeze wasn’t too pleased with how his offense performed in team situations following Tuesday’s morning practice.
