Baptist looks for new home

Now that the purchase agreement for the sale of Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi has been approved by both city and county officials, the hunt for the location of a new $250 million regional medical facility has picked up steam. (August 2, 2011, Page 1)

Officials welcome Baptist decision

While the final site for a new $300 million hospital has not been selected as of Monday, county and city officials are breathing a collective sigh of relief over knowing where the new hospital won’t be going.

Baptist Memorial Health Care Corp. officials announced Monday during the Lafayette County Board of Supervisors’ meeting, that the hospital will no longer consider building the new facility on land located on Highway 6 West, a few miles outside Oxford’s city limits. (April 5, 2011, Page 1A)

New hospital moves forward

In a surprise move, the Lafayette County Board of Supervisors voted Monday at an informational public hearing to move forward with negotiations with officials from Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi on the medical center’s plans to build a new $300 million facility in Oxford.

After an hour-plus presentation by Dick Cowart, legal counsel for Baptist, and a round of questions from the standing-room-only audience, Supervisor Mike Pickens made a motion to enter into a memorandum of understanding with the hospital to allow the hospital corporation to buy out of the original lease it had with the city of Oxford and Lafayette County for about $60 million. (January 25, 2011, Page 1)
