Community honors fallen heroes

Before the coals were lit and the tradition of grilling got underway on Monday, many Oxford and Lafayette County residents gathered at the National Guard Armory for a somber and respectful ceremony to honor those veterans who have died and remember all military men and women who have served their country. (May 29, 2012, Page 1, 16)

Valor recalled

Area residents will have three programs this Memorial Day to give everyone a chance to honor those who gave all.

— Community service at 10 a.m. at the National Guard Armory in Oxford; guest speaker will be Don Hutson

— Mississippi State Veteran’s Home at 10 a.m.; guest speaker will be SP5 Jimmy C. Reed Jr.

— Water Valley VFW at 11 a.m. on Main Street; free lunch provided following service. (May 27, 2011, Page 1A,3A)

Those who gave all

While current and past veterans were recognized Monday,  the annual Memorial Day  ceremony at the National Guard Armory was a time to remember the veterans who didn’t make it back home. (June 1, 2010, Page 1A)

Marking Memorial Day

Local veterans are asking area residents to help them remember those who have made the greatest sacrifice while serving their country.
