Led by two first-place finishes in relay events and a first-place finish from Dion Kevin, the Oxford Chargers finished second in the MHSAA Division 2 North Half meet Saturday in Jackson. Twenty swimmers from Oxford High advanced to next month’s MHSAA state meet thanks to earning qualifying scores in the 5A-6A North Half state meet this past Saturday in Starkville. Oxford High’s swim teams had another strong showing in recent meet action held at Hartfield Academy in Flowood. The Chargers won six events, including relays, and finished first as a team, while the Lady Chargers finished with three first-place finishes and second overall.
Individual first-place finishers for the Chargers included Dion Kevin in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.32 seconds. Kevin was also second in the 100 with a 53.58. Jack Cutler was first in the 500 free with a time of 5 minutes, 18.39 seconds. He was also third in the 100 free with a 54.59. Kevin Walker finished first in the 100 back with a 1:04.34.
