Wave crash Oxford’s 5A playoff hopes
One of the most successful seasons on the gridiron the past few seasons for the Oxford Chargers ended with a disappointing 27-12 loss to the West Point Green Wave in the second round of the Class 5A playoffs Friday night at Bobby Holcomb Field.
A good, physical gameplan helped lifted the Green Wave (11-1 overall) into the 5A North Half title game. (November 22, 2010, Page 6B)
Billups setting records while leading team
Cool, calm and collected. That’s what Oxford senior quarterback Guy Cameron Billups has been this season on the gridiron for the Chargers.
At a program where good passing quarterbacks have been plentiful over the years, Billups has taken aim at all of the school records and not only been able to duplicate the success of a Matt Malouf or Chad Hill or Mike Stark, but surpass all of them in terms of stats. (November 18, 2010, Page 7)

Chargers score at will in rout at Pearl
It was obvious on Friday night that last year’s first round loss at Pearl was fresh on every Oxford Charger’s mind.
With focus on stopping an option attack that hurt them a year ago, and an Oxford offense that was able to do virtually whatever it wanted, the Chargers achieved their revenge by up-ending the Pearl Pirates 49-14 at Ray Rogers Stadium. (November 15, 2010, Page 4B)

Billups, McNeal pace OHS in latest win
The first really cold night of the 2010 football season had no impact on the Oxford Chargers’ passing game Friday night. Senior quarterback Guy Cameron Billups was near flawless throwing the ball as he helped lead the Chargers to a 40-21 win over Saltillo in the regular season finale.
For the Chargers, who will try to build on their 8-3 overall record on the road at Pearl in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs, Friday’s win was another example of just how complex and in sync the offense under Billups has become. (November 8, 2010, Page 3B)
Chargers explode on offense, Rams
As a program in the midst of rebuilding, the Indianola-Gentry Rams never really stood a chance on Friday against an Oxford Chargers squad that has hit its stride.
The Chargers found the end zone four times in the first quarter en route to a 42-8 victory at Bobby Holcomb Field. (November 1, 2010, Page 3B)
Devils’ Fondon a student of the game
Friday’s game against Winona for Water Valley was a must-win in the eyes of the Blue Devils. It wasn’t a win-or-you’re-out of the playoffs type must-win, but a must-win in the sense of playoff seeding.
With Water Valley’s 31-21 victory, the Blue Devils locked up a second-place spot in Region 2-3A that will have them hosting either Corinth or Kossuth in the first round of the playoffs. (October 26, 2010, Page 9)
Defense steps up in victory for Chargers
The smile on Oxford defensive back D.J. Blake’s face told the story of the Chargers’ 26-19 win over Lake Cormorant Friday night. Blake was a major factor in why the Chargers earned the important Region 1-5A win, as was several other defenders.
Oxford’s defense definitely made the difference in the win as it forced four second-half turnovers by the Gators (5-4, 2-3), including three on their final three possessions of the game. (October 25, 2010, Page 3B)
