Scott leads Kemper County past Blue Devils in 3A playoffs

WATER VALLEY — Overmatched and overrun, Water Valley’s season came to an abrupt and emphatic end Friday night against Kemper County in the first round of the MHSAA Class 3A playoffs. Behind a 429-yard and five-touchdown rushing performance from senior running back Devante Scott, Kemper County (10-3) rolled the Blue Devils (7-5) 64-34 at Bobby Clark Field in a game that saw the Water Valley defense give up the most points ever in the Brad Embry era. (November 9, 2014, Page 5B)

No. 3 Charleston wears Blue Devils down, beats WVHS 40-17

WATER VALLEY — The Water Valley Blue Devils began their Region 2-3A slate with a 40-17 loss to Charleston on Friday at Bobby Clark Field. The Blue Devils (3-4 overall) got a touchdown run from Kirkland Horton and a touchdown pass from quarterback Jonathan Kent, but it wasn’t nearly enough to keep up with the No. 3-ranked Tigers (4-2, 1-0), who quickly wore down a depleted Blue Devil defense in another blowout victory in the series.
