Jones, 22, and Justin Eugene Montez, 26, were sentenced Wednesday to life in prison with the possibility of parole for their role in the deadly beating. The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the murder of a 69-year-old man who was allegedly beaten to death in the county at about 9 p.m. last night.
Investigators are not releasing how the victim, Derald “Pete” Connell, was killed; only that he was the victim of an assault.
Investigator Scott Mills said the assault took place off Highway 6 East near Oxford.
