‘Dores think they can keep things rolling

JACKSON — Can Lafayette win a third straight Class 4A state title and keep intact a winning streak that has now reached 32 games? Those were the two big questions every reporter who watched Saturday’s MHSAA Class 4A state title game was asking following the Commodores’ 39-29 win over Laurel.

LHS coach Anthony Hart and his players who are returning for 2012 all had a positive frame of mind when giving answers. Even though the team is losing 17 seniors, there is a belief that LHS could return to play in the title game again and keep the program atop the Class 4A ranks. (December 5, 2011, Page 1B)

Family, friends remember Owens

On a day when America took time out to remember fallen soldiers that lost their lives in battle, the 2011 senior class at Lafayette High School held a memorial service for one of their own.

LHS grad, 19, killed in wreck

Demetrius Owens, 19, of Lafayette County was killed Friday morning when the car he was a passenger in overturned, throwing him out of the vehicle. Funeral arrangements are incomplete with Hodges-Freeman Funeral Home of Oxford. (more…) (May 27, 2011)

Lafayette lifters experienced, looking for more accolades

Experienced lifters is a common thread the Lafayette girls and boys powerlifting teams share this year. A season after the Commodores won the Class 4A title and the Lady Commodores finished third in the state in its Class II division, several lifters who were on those teams return to both squads in the attempt to repeat those lofty results.
