RB Dennis named top player in Week 3
This week’s Player of the Week from the high school ranks is used to seeing his name in print. Lafayette senior running back Demarkous Dennis is a reliable, every-down player for the No. 1 ranked Commodores and a reason why they have scored 40 or more points in all three of their games so far this year.
In a year where D.K. Buford has emerged to give the Commodores yet another weapon on offense, Dennis has been the most consistent member of the unit. In Week 1 he rushed for 132 yards and a touchdown, while in Week 2 he totaled 165 yards and three touchdowns. (more…) (September 6, 2011, Page 6)
‘Dores dominate OHS in Classic
A faster start to the game is what Lafayette football coach Anthony Hart wanted to see from his team against Oxford Friday night in the annual Crosstown Classic. To the delight of Hart and the rest of his coaching staff, the message got through loud and clear.
The top-ranked Lafayette Commodores rolled to a 40-12 win over OHS at William L. Buford Stadium thanks in large part to their fast start on offense and special teams. (more…) (September 5, 2011, Page 1B)

Oxford’s Dean earns Player of Week honor
A win is what the Oxford Chargers needed to garner last Friday night at Charleston. After losing a tough opener to Grenada on the road, the Chargers could ill afford another setback heading into this week’s Crosstown Classic at Lafayette.
Thanks to an improved effort across the board, and specifically the running of senior Mont Dean, the Chargers were able to defeat Charleston 38-25 to earn that coveted first victory. (more…) (August 30, 2011, Page 8)
LHS dominates Greenwood
GREENWOOD — Prior to the season, Lafayette coach Anthony Hart called Friday night’s matchup with Greenwood a “sandwich” game because it came in between the highly anticipated opener with Tupelo and the annual Crosstown Classic matchup with the Oxford Chargers.
Fortunately for Hart, the only thing that got sandwiched were the Greenwood Bulldogs, who proved to be no real challenge in a 42-0 loss to the Commodores. (more…) (August 29, 2011, Page 1B)

Jackson a big part of ‘Dores success
There are a lot of reasons why the Lafayette Commodores have been one of Mississippi’s top teams since the start of the 2009 season. The outstanding play of quarterback Jeremy Liggins and Demarkous Dennis have keyed a potent offense, while players such as D.Q. Reynolds and Keeyon Tyson have led a very productive defensive unit.
But as good as the Commodores’ offensive and defensive units have been during that time period, the special teams, led by do-it-all kicker Tyler Jackson, has also been very productive. (more…) (August 26, 2011, Page 6A)
LHS dominates Golden Wave in opener
TUPELO — With all the preseason hype surrounding the program, Lafayette Commodores’ head football coach Anthony Hart had some concerns about going into Friday night’s road matchup at 6A Tupelo to open the 2011 season.
It was obvious that the Golden Wave had some concerns of its own — LHS running back Demarkous Dennis and quarterback Jeremy Liggins. They just didn’t count on everyone else pitching in on the 40-11 ‘Dores win. (August 22, 2011, Page 1B)
