Lafayette players dominate 2011 Region 2-4A roster
Lafayette’s football players dominated the Region 2-4A team, which was voted on and released Thursday by the region’s coaches. Quarterback Jeremy Liggins was named Player of the Year. Liggins’ leadership, dedication paced LHS in 2011
There were a lot reasons why the Lafayette Commodores finished the season ranked No. 1 overall in the state and with a second straight MHSAA Class 4A state title trophy to put on display. A bevy of talented players and a very organized coaching staff are at the top of the list of reasons why the Commodores reeled off another 16-0 season, but leadership provided by key players was also a major reason for the immense success. ‘Dores clean up MAC awards in 4A
Three days after claiming a second Class 4A state title, the Lafayette Commodores were on top of the football world in Mississippi.
Lafayette’s 16-0 record garnered them a final ranking of No. 1 in the final prep football poll released by the Associated Press Wednesday. LHS received five votes for No. 1, while Olive Branch, who won the 6A title, also claimed five votes to finish in a tie with the Commodores as the top team in the state. ‘Dores think they can keep things rolling
JACKSON — Can Lafayette win a third straight Class 4A state title and keep intact a winning streak that has now reached 32 games? Those were the two big questions every reporter who watched Saturday’s MHSAA Class 4A state title game was asking following the Commodores’ 39-29 win over Laurel.
LHS coach Anthony Hart and his players who are returning for 2012 all had a positive frame of mind when giving answers. Lafayette has experience on its side
Experience is something the Lafayette Commodores have on their side heading into Saturday’s MHSAA Class 4A state title game in Jackson’s Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium. Not only will this be the third time in a row LHS has played for a state title on the same field, 13 seniors were starters back in 2009 when the team played against St. Stanislaus. A season filled with high expectations and a certain degree of pressure now comes down to one, exciting game left for the Lafayette Commodores.
Lafayette advanced back to the MHSAA’s Class 4A title game Saturday in Jackson by defeating Amory 35-7 in the North Half title game.
