Jones, Jackson dismissed from football team
A brush with the Oxford Police Department cost two Ole Miss players their spot on the team on Monday. Ole Miss football coach Houston Nutt released rising sophomore linebacker Clarence Jackson and rising sophomore defensive end Delvin Jones from the roster after the two were charged with public drunkenness last Friday. Diana Nutt won’t be needing to purchase snow gear anytime soon.

MSU hurts Rebels with screen passes
In Ole Miss’ victory over Louisiana-Lafayette on homecoming, the Ragin Cajuns ran a string of halfback screen passes that hurt the Rebels for short gains until they adapted.
On Saturday, the screen pass wasn’t used as much, but when the Mississippi State Bulldogs did call the screen, they were able to hit home runs twice.
The go-to player for Mississippi State on the screen plays was freshman running back LaDarius Perkins, who finished the game with three receptions for a game-high 140 yards and two touchdowns to go along with 98 yards rushing. (November 29, 2010, Page 1B)
Nutt suspends two Rebels on Tuesday
Ole Miss’ depth on defense took a hit Tuesday when football coach Houston Nutt suspended cornerback Tony Grimes and end Delvin Jones. The freshmen from South Florida violated team rules by being lax on class attendance and the punishment will be missing the final two games, starting with Saturday’s contest at No. 5 LSU. Nutt ready to lead Rebels back into SEC play
A re-engergized Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt seemed ready to lead his team back into Southeastern Conference play two days after the Rebels recorded their most impressive win of the season.
Nutt talked about moving forward with several young players, specifically on defense at the end spot, with the loss of senior leader Kentrell Lockett, who will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL. (September 28, 2010, Page 6)
Lockett lost for season
After injuring himself during the first quarter of Ole Miss’ 55-38 victory over Fresno State on Saturday, senior defensive end Kentrell Lockett is done for the year.
During the Bulldogs’ second possession of the game, Lockett jumped in an attempt to block a screen pass and landed awkwardly. He remained on the turf until trainers helped him limp off the field.
During his postgame press conference, head coach Houston Nutt confirmed that Lockett will likely miss the season with an apparent ACL injury. (September 27, 2010, Page 1B)
