Several Blue Devils make MAC 3A Team
Several Water Valley Blue Devils were honored on Wednesday for their standout play on the football field.
Included on the 2010 Mississippi Association of Coaches’ Class 3A All-State Team were first teamers, linebacker J.D. Fondon, safety/running back Eric Buckley and long snapper Fred McGee. Cornerback/receiver Chris Conard was named to the second team, while linebacker C.J. Jackson, lineman Tommy Lipscomb and punter John Michael Grimmett were named as honorable mentions. Leadership, production lead to POW honor
It may be a new season, but it’s the start of what could be the same old story — which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
Lafayette’s Jeremy Liggins took home the season’s first EAGLE Player of the Week honor after leading his Commodores past Cleveland 48-12 on Friday night.
Not only was Liggins effective through the air, completing 9 of 15 passes for 117 yards, but he also rushed for 140 yards and three scores on just 10 carries. (August 24, 2010, Page 6)

As if getting acclimated to classes wasn’t enough for the new — and returning — baseball players, the 38 members of the Ole Miss baseball team are also going through team-related activities. (more…) (August 23, 2010)
Water Valley survives OT scare
It took late-game heroics, but the Water Valley Blue Devils were able to survive an overtime scare to defeat the Bruce Trojans 13-7 Friday at Bobby Clark Field.
“You win football games by fighting and scrapping and we did that,” WVHS coach Brad Embry told his team after the game. “It doesn’t matter how you get it done on Friday night.”
Senior Eric Buckley scored on a 4-yard run to open the overtime period, but a botched extra-point attempt gave the Trojans a chance to go ahead on the ensuing possession.
With the season-opener on the line, Water Valley’s Wrecking Crew defense answered the call of its coach. (August 23, 2010, Page 3B)
