Lafayette has experience on its side
Experience is something the Lafayette Commodores have on their side heading into Saturday’s MHSAA Class 4A state title game in Jackson’s Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium. Not only will this be the third time in a row LHS has played for a state title on the same field, 13 seniors were starters back in 2009 when the team played against St. Stanislaus. Rebels looking to win one for Nutt
Houston Nutt’s final game as the head coach of the Ole Miss football program is arguably the most important to his legacy. Coaches, outgoing or not, are remembered by how they finish a season, a career and how they fare against the team’s biggest rival. Dennis runs No. 1 Lafayette into next round
Lafayette senior running back Demarkous Dennis said he has been eating a little less at meals than normal now that the MHSAA’s Class 4A playoffs have started. His efforts to remain sleek and fast were definitely noticeable on the field Friday night as Dennis rushed for 303 yards and four touchdowns on 20 carries in the Commodores’ 53-8 thrashing of Greenwood at William L. Leake Central no match for Commodores
Mississippi State football coach Dan Mullen’s arrival to Friday night’s game at William L. Buford Stadium via helicopter wasn’t enough to distract the No. 1 Lafayette Commodores from their mission of winning in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs.
Playing more like a junior college football team rather than one composed of a bunch of 15-, 16- and 17-year-old kids, the Commodores had no trouble dispatching the Leake Central Gators 46-7. (more…) (November 7, 2011, Page 3B)

Relf, Perkins lift MSU Bulldogs over La. Tech
STARKVILLE (AP) — Mississippi State quarterback Chris Relf’s last seven passes in regulation missed their mark. He hadn’t completed a pass since the third quarter.
But when he finally did — a 17-yarder to LaDarius Perkins — it was a game-winner.
Relf hit Perkins on MSU’s second play of overtime, sealing a 26-20 victory over Louisiana Tech on Saturday night. (September 26, 2011, Page 2B)

QB Relf gives Mississippi State fans reason to be excited
HOOVER, Ala. — A big reason for optimism heading into the 2011 season for the Mississippi State Bulldogs is senior quarterback Chris Relf. The 6-foot-4, 245-pound Relf has played in 25 games the last two years and thrown for over 2,000 yards and rushed for over 1,200 during that span. His leadership skills have been key for the MSU offense under coach Dan Mullen, who has been impressed with the way his signal caller has improved since his sophomore season. (July 21, 2011, Page 5)
