McDonnell ready for return
For the majority of his drive from Louisville, Ky., to Oxford on Thursday, Dan McDonnell did part of what made him a college baseball commodity — talk on his cell phone. During the six years McDonnell spent as assistant coach to Ole Miss skipper Mike Bianco from 2000 to 2006, it’s arguable that he did his best work on the phone, convincing some of the best high school and junior college baseball players from the Southeast to take a chance on the new Rebels’ regime and buy into the vision.
Today, McDonnell will get to see some of the tangibles that came as a result of the early years, when he first steps foot at Oxford-University Stadium — new to him since he left for Louisville in 2006. (March 12, 2010, Page 6A)
