WATER VALLEY – Water Valley’s boys basketball team was too fast for J.Z. George. It was a small taste of the kind of frenetic pace opponents will have to deal with this season from the Blue Devils under first-year coach Larry Taylor. Water Valley applied full-court pressure after every made basket, greeted every ball handler with a trap at half-court, and turned every miss by J.Z. George into a race to the other end, overwhelming the Jaguars in a 73-30 rout Tuesday night in its home opener at the WVHS gym. (December 10, 2014, Page 2B)
KOSSUTH — Water Valley was five outs away from forcing a Game 3 with the Kossuth Aggies. The Blue Devils were unable to hold off an Aggie charge as Kossuth erased a two-run deficit and beat Water Valley 3-2 in eight innings Saturday. (May 12, 2014, Page 9)
BOONEVILLE — On the heels of Cody Greer’s performance in Game 1, Water Valley was looking for another solid outing from Game 2 starter Skyler Defer Friday night. That is exactly what the Blue Devils got as Defer pitched a complete-game shutout in Water Valley’s 4-0 win over Booneville, advancing Water Valley (24-6) to the next round of the MHSAA Class 3A playoffs. WATER VALLEY — The Blue Devils have become a team that finds a way to win. Tuesday night was no exception as WVHS held off a pesky M.S. Palmer Dragon team to earn a 62-51 District 2-3A victory inside the WVHS gym. (January 29, 2014, Page 6)
