Rebels’ Ferguson, Barrett get drafted on second day
Two more Rebels were selected on Day 2 of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
Right-handed pitcher Aaron Barrett was selected in the ninth round by the Washington Nationals, while center fielder Tim Ferguson was picked in the next round by the Kansas City Royals. (June 9, 2010, Page 6)
Pomeranz named Mississippi’s best
Ole Miss left-handed pitcher Drew Pomeranz was named the 2010 winner of the Cellular South Ferriss Trophy awarded annually to the top collegiate baseball player in the state of Mississippi. Pomeranz is the fourth Rebel to win the award. (May 25, 2010, Page 8)
Belcher gets nod against Rebs
The Ole Miss Rebels and South Carolina Gamecocks both had chances to claim division titles going into the last weekend of the regular season, and both came up short. Now, the two teams square off in the first round of the SEC Tournament in Hoover, Ala.
The coaching staffs of the two programs are taking different approaches to the SEC tournament. USC is holding its top two pitchers to keep them on the regular schedule heading into the NCAA Regionals, while Mike Bianco isn’t holding anything back and will send ace Drew Pomeranz to the mound Wednesday afternoon.
