Magnolia Heights rallies to top Devils
WATER VALLEY — A fast start to Monday’s game with Magnolia Heights for the Water Valley Blue Devils at Blue Devil Field ended up being marred in the late stages of the game. The Chiefs overcame an early 4-1 deficit by scoring a run in the top of the fourth and four more in the fifth to post a 6-4 win. After collecting five hits and running around the base paths with ease in the first three innings, Water Valley (3-7 overall) didn’t garner a hit in the last four frames and only had one player advance past first. Devils, ‘Dores see positives from jamboree
WATER VALLEY — High school baseball returned to the area Monday in the form of two dress rehearsals for the Water Valley Blue Devils and Lafayette Commodores. Both teams played two four-inning contests at Blue Devil Field, including a matchup against each other in the nightcap of the day-long jamboree.
Lafayette got the better of the Blue Devils with a 1-0 win, but both LHS coach Greg Lewis and WVHS coach Kary Bridges saw positives and things they can both build on.
Lewis, whose Commodores lost 5-4 to Grenada just before playing Water Valley, was focused on how his pitchers performed. (February 21, 2012, Page 9)
