Cody Prewitt

Game slowing down for Elston

For the game to slow down, you must speed up.

Sounds like an ancient Chinese proverb but in reality that’s how sophomore safety Trae Elston described his rise from highly-touted signee to freshman starter. (more…) (August 8, 2013, Page 6)

Battered Ole Miss conclude spring season

Hugh Freeze’s second full spring as Ole Miss head coach was a lot different than his first and so was the annual Grove Bowl game. Injuries to some key players such as quarterback Bo Wallace, wide receiver Donte Moncrief an defensive end C.J. Johnson prevented Freeze and his staff holding a traditional spring football game Saturday at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. (more…) (April 15, 2013, Page 9)

Prewitt’s outstanding night overshadowed by loss

Cody Prewitt had a career day Saturday. With Ole Miss looking for its first Southeastern Conference win in 16 attempts, the sophomore safety racked up a team-best six tackles with two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and an interception.

Unfortunately for Prewitt and the Rebels, the performance of the Bay Springs native will be largely overshadowed by what unfolded at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. (more…) (October 8, 2012, Page 2B)

Penalties come back to hurt Rebels in setback

When a college football game is decided by three points and in the final minutes like Ole Miss’ game with Texas A&M was Saturday night, coaches, fans, players and media will often go to the stats to figure out where the game was won or lost.

In the case of the Rebels, a season-high 10 penalties that garnered 71 yards hurt their chances of earning the victory as much as any stat, including two interceptions thrown by Bo Wallace. (more…) (October 8, 2012, Page 2B)

Freeze to open QB competition back up

VIDEO BLOG: Ole Miss hasn’t exactly gone back to the drawing board, but head coach Hugh Freeze did make it pretty clear that just because Bo Wallace has been the man, doesn’t mean he will continue to be QB 1 if he continues to turn over the ball. (more…) (October 1, 2012)

Toughness shown in loss

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Physical toughness.

That’s what Ole Miss’ defense and offense showed in Saturday’s 33-14 loss to No. 1 Alabama at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Compared to two weeks ago, when the Rebels blew 50 assignments according to defensive coordinator Dave Wommack, Saturday’s effort against the tough-minded Crimson Tide was much improved. (October 1, 2012, Page 1B)

Now, Rebels ready to take next step

COLUMN: TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Ole Miss’ latest trip to Alabama’s Bryant-Denny Stadium wasn’t as successful as the one the Rebels made in 1988.

There has only been one win garnered for the Rebels all time in the house that Bear Bryant built, but there have been a lot worse showings for the Rebels than Saturday night’s 33-14 loss to the No. 1 Crimson Tide as well. (more…) (October 1, 2012, Page 1B)

Rebels look to make improvements against Tulane

Move on and forget about the Texas game is the message Ole Miss football coach Hugh Freeze has tried to get across to his players ever since the game came to an end late Saturday night.

In an effort to avoid a hangover from the 66-31 loss suffered at the hands of then No. 14 Texas this Saturday against Tulane, Freeze and his staff want the players to focus on making corrections from the Texas game but not dwell on the outcome. (September 18, 2012, Page 6)
