Knight makes No. 8 Rebs walk-off winners

BLOG: Game 1 wasn’t the prettiest performance of the season for No. 8 Ole Miss.

No. 13 Rebels open against familiar foe

At least publicly, the Ole Miss Diamond Rebels are trying to treat this weekend’s season opener just like any other three-game set.

Don’t blame the No. 13 Rebels, however, if they play a little more on edge than normal.

Coming to Oxford this weekend is familiar foe Texas Christian University, the No. 14 team in the country according to Baseball America.

The Rebels and Horned Frogs are no strangers as the two split a rain-shortened opening series in Ft. Worth, Texas, and then faced off for three games in the College Station (Texas) Regional with TCU eventually advancing.

In recent years Ole Miss has seen pitchers Bobby Wahl and Mike Mayers perform well in support roles as freshmen before locking down spots in the weekend rotation.

Monday, Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco officially named sophomore Chris Ellis the No. 3 starter — behind Wahl and Mayers — in the hopes he continues the trend this season.
