Miscues cost Devils in 2-3A finale
WATER VALLEY — A few small mistakes and a couple of decisions coach Kary Bridges wished he could have back ended up deciding Monday night’s regular season finale for the Water Valley Blue Devils. Water Valley entered the Division 2-3A matchup with South Pontotoc at Blue Devil field winners of 10 straight.
That stat is now winners in 10 of the last 11 games after South Pontotoc edged the Blue Devils 5-3.
Monday’s setback cost the Blue Devils (14-11 overall) the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Class 3A playoffs. WVHS will now play Winona in the first round, and since higher seeds decide how the best-of-three series is set up, the Blue Devils will likely have to defeat the Tigers at their home park Saturday in order to advance.
