Chargers open 5A playoffs with familiar opponent
Oxford’s return to the playoffs will be against a familiar foe in Hernando. The best-of-three series begins Friday evening at 6. Chargers win 2-5A despite loss to WPHS
Bittersweet was the only way to describe the feeling Oxford coach Chris Baughman had following Tuesday night’s Region 2-5A finale against West Point at Edwin Moak Field. For the second time in less than a week, the Chargers lost a region game on their home field by making errors and not executing like they had most of the season.
The end result was a 10-7 setback to the Green Wave, a team they beat two other times this year, and a final mark of 5-4 in the region.
Despite the loss, there was one positive gained for the loss, OHS still secured the region regular season title and the coveted No. 1 seed in the upcoming Class 5A playoffs thanks to New Hope’s 16-2 loss to Saltillo. Oxford (13-9 overall) will be idle this weekend in the playoffs because of the bye, but is still searching for a way to fully break out of the mini funk that has set in the final few games. Errors stop OHS from claiming title
Two late inning rallies couldn’t overcome the bevy of mistakes made by the Oxford Chargers in their Region 2-5A game with Saltillo on Friday night at Edwin Moak Field. With a win over the Tigers, the Chargers could have wrapped up the No. 1 seed out of the division for the upcoming Class 5A playoffs. Blue Devils’ offense, errors doom Chargers
Errors ended up preventing the Oxford Chargers from earning a clean sweep in a baseball twinbill at W.V. Brewer Field on Saturday afternoon. LHS takes down Devils
Lafayette coach Greg Lewis knew his Commodores didn’t play their best against Oxford to start Saturday’s baseball fest at W.V. Brewer Field. Instead of changing the lineup drastically against Water Valley on Saturday night, Lewis decided to let his team work itself back into normal form.
The end result was a much better approach at the plate in a 15-5 win over the Blue Devils in five innings. (April 4, 2011, Page 7A)
Abundance of errors dooms Chargers
Committing five errors in a single game is going to make for a long evening for any team.

Oxford shows maturity in win over NHS
Chris Baughman may be in his first season as Oxford High’s head baseball coach, but he seems to have already mastered the delivery of the between-inning speech.
Baughman’s discussion with his players after the visiting New Hope Trojans scored four runs off OHS starter James Lear in the top of the first inning on Friday was brief and to the point.
