Commodores open with road game against Class 6A Tupelo

The Lafayette Commodores open their 2013 season on the road Friday against a Class 6A foe when they travel to Tupelo. It’s a good test for the Commodores, LHS coach Eric Robertson said, and the Golden Wave will look familiar even with a new coach since he’s former Water Valley coach Trent Hammond. (August 22, 2013, Page 6)

Adamson’s consistent leadership paves season for Oxford

Oxford’s reversal of fortune on the gridiron this season was a result of many different players. For a team that was 5-6 and not in the playoffs in 2011, an 11-2 overall record and a trip to the semifinals of the MHSAA Class 5A playoffs in 2012 took a lot of hard work on the part of several top players. Oxford defense earns Player of the Week nod

Oxford’s defenders must have felt hot following the Chargers’ 19-0 win over Lafayette in the annual Crosstown Classic. In a game that was dominated by the Chargers from start to finish, the OHS defense shined the brightest in a victory that not only ended a six-game losing streak to the Commodores, but also ended Lafayette’s 34-game winning streak.

It was an effort that won’t be forgotten by anyone associated with OHS for a long time. It was an effort — by all 11 starters and numerous backups — that garnered the unit this week’s Player of the Week honors.

Oxford defensive coordinator Steve Herring was beyond pleased with the effort his players gave in the victory and said hustling was the key to it all. (September 4, 2012, Page 8)

LHS starts Robertson Era off right

Leave it to the Lafayette Commodores to win a dramatic defensive struggle in Eric Robertson’s head coaching debut. Sparked by an early interception returned for a touchdown by linebacker Chequille Williams, the Commodores scratched and clawed their way to an 8-3 win at William L. Buford Stadium on Friday. It was the 33rd straight win for LHS and the first for Robertson, who served the team the previous seven seasons as defensive coordinator. (more…) (August 20, 2012, Page 1B)
