Dozens of people showed up at a public hearing Tuesday at City Hall to voice their support in keeping the Oxford Conference Center open. City officials, concerned with the revenue loss, have recently discussed options in regards to the center, including having a private company take over operations.
The city is considering a request from local hotelier Chan Patel for some tax breaks and incentives to build an 80-bed hotel next to the Oxford Conference Center. The request is for three items: a tax abatement, sidewalks and landscaping funded by the city, and waiver of one-time city fees, such as electrical connections. (February 4, 2010, Page 1)
