New Diamond Rebs wasting no time

FORT WORTH, Texas — Mike Bianco didn’t shy away from thrusting his talented flock of freshmen and newcomers into pressure situations over the weekend at TCU.

Each of the five players that made their Ole Miss debuts in Texas had varying impacts on the 1-1 weekend. (February 20, 2012, Page 2B)

Rebs anxious to get practice underway

Mike Bianco has a number of reasons to be anxious for the official start of fall ball this weekend.

The fall ball season offers the Ole Miss head baseball coach the opportunity to begin molding the team without the pressure of facing opponents.

In addition to getting a fresh start after a disappointing season in the spring, the Rebels welcome a plethora of new players — nine of which were drafted but opted to come to Oxford — into the fold. (September 16, 2011, Page 6A)

New faces stand out for Diamond Rebels on first weekend

Getting used to new faces and making adjustments will headline most of Ole Miss’ fall ball season, which began this past week.

“It was a good weekend and a good start,” Ole Miss coach Mike Bianco said. “There’s a lot of new faces and a lot of the new guys did well.”

Included on Ole Miss’ current 38-man roster are 20 new players.

Of those players, corner infielder/outfielder Preston Overbey may have made the best first impression on Bianco. (September 20, 2010, Page 3B)

Rebs’ Yarbrough continuing to show skill in CPL

Many batters go to wooden bat summer leagues such as the Cape Cod League or the Coastal Plain League to hone their batting skills and Ole Miss’ Alex Yarbrough is no different.

After admittedly taking a few games to adjust to the feel of maple in his hands as opposed to aluminum, Yarbrough got on a roll for the CPL’s Thomasville Hi-Toms and this past week he was named the CPL’s Hitter of the Week (Yarbrough hit .464 in seven games with two triples and four doubles). (July 14, 2010, Page 8)

DeSoto Central SS steals show

Led by Ole Miss signee Casey Greene, the DeSoto Central Jaguars defeated the Oxford Chargers 10-4 Tuesday night at Edwin Moak Field. Greene hit two home runs — including a grand slam in a six-run sixth inning — and drove in seven runs to lift the Jaguars past the Chargers, who had won three straight coming into the contest. (March 10, 2010, Page 10)
