Rebs’ Lockett will miss season opener
Tuesday’s practice session was more subdued than normal for the Ole Miss Rebels, who not only had to deal with the NCAA’s unfavorable ruling on Jeremiah Masoli, but also cope with the loss of one their team captains in senior defensive end Kentrell Lockett.
Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt said Lockett will miss Saturday’s season opener against Jacksonville State to deal with a rhythm problem in his heart that was first detected during Saturday’s scrimmage.
Nutt said Lockett was flown to Cleveland, Ohio Tuesday to meet with heart rhythm specialist.
He said it was tough on the players to have to practice without a vocal leader like Lockett and to know that he wouldn’t be available for the opener. (September 1, 2010, Page 6)
