Good field of athletes on tap at Ole Miss invitational

Some of the best college and pro track athletes will be on display as they compete in the annual Ole Miss Invitational on Saturday. Oxford track teams ready for 5A North Half

Oxford’s girls and boys track teams are both looking to capture their first Class 5A North Half title Saturday at Bobby Holcomb Field. The Chargers and Lady Chargers have dominated their competition in both the district and region meets leading up to North Half and coach Scott Kendricks said his teams are prepared for the meet, which is the final opportunity for athletes to qualify for the next week’s 5A state meet. (May 7, 2010, Page 7A)

Oxford track teams capture titles Monday

Two more all-around performances led to two more titles for the Oxford girls and boys track teams Monday at Bobby Holcomb Field. The Chargers won the Region 1-5A meet by scoring 200 points, 83.5 points more than second-place finisher Indianola-Gentry. The Lady Chargers totaled 191.5 points, the most ever in a region meet, a figure that clearly outdistanced Gentry. (May 4, 2010, Page 8)

Chargers, Lady Chargers place first in 2-5A meet

Oxford’s final push towards the Class 5A state track meet got off to a great start Thursday as both the girls and boys teams won the District 2-5A titles at Bobby Holcomb Field.

The Chargers totaled 135 points, almost 100 points more than second-place finisher West Point, to win their title while the Lady Chargers totaled 109 points. New Hope finished second in that portion of the meet with 54 points. Rounding out the girls scores were Saltillo (52) and West Point. Saltillo was third in the boys portion with 45 points, while New Hope totaled 19 points. The top four finishers in each event advance to the regional meet on May 1. (April 23, 2010, Page 7A)

Oxford’s Blake does it all as Player of the Year

Describing what Brandon Blake meant to the Oxford Chargers on the hardwood this season can’t be accomplished in just a word or small phrase. His value to coach Drew Tyler and his teammates was all encompassing. His role always seemed to change from game to game. From being the team’s leading scorer to the team’s leading rebounder to leading the Chargers in assists, he simply did it all when called upon. (April 14, 2010, Page 1B)

Chargers second in Tupelo track meet

Several individual athletes fared well for Oxford in the annual Daily Journal Relays held at Tupelo High School.
The Chargers totaled 130.5 points to finish second to Tupelo, who won the event with 175.5 points, while a skeleton Lady Charger team still placed fifth out of 15 teams with 43 points. (April 12, 2010, Page 3B)

Oxford starts season with meet win

Oxford got its track season off to a great start as the boys and girls captured the Oxford Quad Meet Saturday at Bobby Holcomb Field. The Chargers had 12 first-place finishes, while the Lady Chargers won nine overall events. (March 15, 2010, Page 9)
