Golson turns down offer from BoSox
The wild roller coaster that surrounded the Boston Red Sox late courtship of dual-sport standout Senquez Golson finally came to an end Monday night with the passing of Major League Baseball’s midnight (ET) deadline for drafted players to sign professional contracts.
Golson, who had been practicing with the Gridiron Rebels up until flying to Boston early Monday, turned down at least one offer of $1.3 million according to RebelGrove.com to retain his amateur status.
It was believed all along that Golson’s decision would go down to the wire, so much so that following Monday’s football practice Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt asked reporters if there was any news. (August 16, 2011, Page 8)
RHP Hensley: I’m a Rebel
Sunday felt like the perfect day to make it official.
After months of being courted by some of the top baseball programs in the country, and one day after pitching a scoreless first inning for the American squad in the Under Armor All-America Baseball Game at Wrigley field, elite pitching recruit Ty Hensley tweeted “It’s official… I’m an Ole Miss Rebel!!! #hottytoddy” prior to flying home from Chicago to Edmond, Okla.
