A week after suffering through an emotionally draining loss, Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze and his Rebels were able to experience an entirely different emotion following a 41-20 win over Auburn at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium Saturday afternoon. Freeze, who was second guessed in the Rebels’ 30-27 setback to Texas A&M, showed signs of a water and Gatorade celebration performed in the locker room just minutes before talking about the Rebels’ first Southeastern Conference win in 17 tries. BLOG: It’s been a while since Ole Miss won its last Southeastern Conference football game. Sixteen games to be exact after the Rebels squandered a fourth-quarter lead last weekend against SEC newcomer Texas A&M.
Ole Miss (3-3 overall, 0-2 SEC) will be back at it today, looking for that elusive conference victory, with a homecoming matchup against the reeling Auburn Tigers (1-4, 0-3) at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. The game is set for 11:21 a.m. and will be televised on the SEC Network.

NEW ORLEANS — Ole Miss’ defenders had smiles on their faces after Saturday’s game with Tulane in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. COLUMN: NEW ORLEANS — After a 3-1 start to the 2012 season, and non-conference play out of the way, the big question asked to the Ole Miss Rebels and coach Hugh Freeze was “are you ready for SEC play?”
It was a simple question that actually produced several different answers. Sophomore defensive end C.J. Johnson, who had just helped the Rebels earn their first shutout since 2008, believes the team could play with anybody, even if the next opponent is No. 1 Alabama.
