OSD changes registration policy

The Oxford School Board announced at Monday’s meeting a change to their registration policy that will require parents to verify their children live within the district every year. The board also voted to ask the Mississippi Department of Education to waive two of four snow days accumulated during the inclement weather over the past two months. (March 24, 2015, Page 1)

OSD stays competitive with superintendent’s salary

Weather often puts superintendents in no-win situations

School superintendents have to make tough decisions regarding  having school when there’s the threat of inclement weather, and they are really in a no-win situation since Mother Nature ultimately decides whether their decisions were good or bad. Consider, however, that their responsibility is the safety of thousands of youngsters and you need to give them the benefit of the doubt. (February 24, 2015, Page 4)

Money, time patience needed in education

Changes in education, whether good or bad, come with costs and many are often unfunded mandates from the state or national level that the local districts have to figure out how to pay for. We see the need for increased funding, but also for time and patience as schools deal with all the changes that are supposed to help with the education process. (February 6, 2015, Page 4A)
