Regents cross-country teams recently competed in the MAIS Class A State Championships.
Jake Zani, Jared Redding, Jameson Jenkins, Braxton Ruder and John Hooker all competed for the Lions, who came in fifth place. Margo Zani was the lone runner for the Lady Lions. She finished 11th out of 70 girls who competed. All of the runners were in sixth- through eighth-grade and competed against some runners that were as old as high school seniors. The junior varsity girls and boys basketball teams defeated Tupelo Christian Prepatory Thursday night. The Lady Lions topped Tupelo 35-15 in the season-opening win, while the Lions won 34-12. Aliyah Herod scored 12 points, Jenna Ursic had eight points, Erin Getzin scored six points, Holly Prather had five points while Madison McCay finished with two points.
Josh McManus scored 12 points to lead the Lions. Nate McManus, Daniel Brummett and Braxton Ruder each scored six points, while Taylor Rayburn had four points. (November 4, 2011, Page 12A)
