Brandon Mack

Mack does it all for LHS in Shannon win

Lafayette knew it would have its hands full heading into Friday’s Class 4A showdown against Shannon.

The Commodores’ premonition proved to be spot on as the home team had to slug it out with the Red Raiders in the second half to pull out a 44-25 victory. (more…) (September 18, 2012, Page 6)

Lafayette holds on to defeat Shannon

Friday night was exactly what Lafayette needed.

One week after waltzing to a win against first-year program in Duval Charter (Jacksonville, Fla.), the Commodores had their work cut out for them against the Shannon Red Raiders. (more…) (September 17, 2012, Page 3B)

Lafayette turns over Shannon in 44-25 victory

BLOG: It seems odd, but after last week’s blowout win against Duval Charter (Jacksonville, Fla.), the Lafayette Commodores needed Friday night’s battle against Shannon at William L. Buford Stadium prior to the start of region play.

LHS prepares to host Red Raiders

Last week, Lafayette had a cakewalk of a game against Duval Charter, scoring almost at will in its 69-0 win at William L. Buford Stadium.

By most accounts, Friday’s game against Shannon won’t even be in the same hemisphere as last week’s.

The Red Raiders (2-2 overall), once a thorn in Lafayette’s side before the Commodores (3-1) became a mainstay in the Class 4A championship game, will prove to be a greater challenge. (September 13, 2012, Page 8)

Lafayette takes care of business with 69-0 win

There was virtually no stopping the Lafayette Commodores Friday night in their 69-0 win over the Duval Charter (Fla.) Panthers. Lafayette’s first drive of the game had people wondering if it was Friday the 13th. The first play saw running back D.K Buford run 52-yards for the touchdown only to see it called back by a block-in-the-back penalty. The second play of the game saw quarterback Brandon Mack run for a 24-yard touchdown only to have a holding penalty bring the score back as well. The third time was not the charm either, as a Buford’s 15-yard touchdown run was yet again called back for another holding penalty.

The fourth play, however, turned out to be the right one for the Commodores, who finally scored their first of many touchdowns on a 36-yard pass and catch from Mack to Buford. (September 10, 2012, Page 5B)

Oxford D pummels LHS in Crosstown Classic

Six years of frustration over losing to Lafayette was erased in one night for the Oxford Chargers thanks to an inspired and near flawless defensive performance. The Chargers defeated the fifth-ranked Commodores 19-0 in front of a jubilant home crowd at Bobby Holcomb Field and regional television audience watching live on Fox Sports South on Thursday night by pounding the Commodores into submission at the point of attack. Hill: LHS has plenty of speed yet again

There may be different names running the Lafayette High offense this season but Oxford coach Johnny Hill said quarterback Brandon Mack and running back D.K. Buford have more than enough speed and talent to make all the plays to beat his Chargers if OHS don’t play well.

Oxford hosts No. 6 ranked Lafayette in the annual Crosstown Classic contest Thursday night at 7. In a game that is being sponsored by C Spire Wireless and highlighted on Fox Sports South, Hill is hoping that the only fireworks that go off are before the game and turned in by his team rather than by the speed of Buford and Mack. (August 29, 2012, Page 6)

Lafayette’s Williams earns first POW award

Chequille Williams provided the spark that got Lafayette’s season off to a bang Friday, returning an interception for a touchdown minutes into the Commodores’ 8-3 win against Tupelo. (August 21, 2012, Page 6)

LHS starts Robertson Era off right

Leave it to the Lafayette Commodores to win a dramatic defensive struggle in Eric Robertson’s head coaching debut. Sparked by an early interception returned for a touchdown by linebacker Chequille Williams, the Commodores scratched and clawed their way to an 8-3 win at William L. Buford Stadium on Friday. It was the 33rd straight win for LHS and the first for Robertson, who served the team the previous seven seasons as defensive coordinator. (more…) (August 20, 2012, Page 1B)
