LHS prepares to host Red Raiders

Last week, Lafayette had a cakewalk of a game against Duval Charter, scoring almost at will in its 69-0 win at William L. Buford Stadium.

By most accounts, Friday’s game against Shannon won’t even be in the same hemisphere as last week’s.

The Red Raiders (2-2 overall), once a thorn in Lafayette’s side before the Commodores (3-1) became a mainstay in the Class 4A championship game, will prove to be a greater challenge. (September 13, 2012, Page 8)

Lafayette takes care of business with 69-0 win

There was virtually no stopping the Lafayette Commodores Friday night in their 69-0 win over the Duval Charter (Fla.) Panthers. Lafayette’s first drive of the game had people wondering if it was Friday the 13th. The first play saw running back D.K Buford run 52-yards for the touchdown only to see it called back by a block-in-the-back penalty. The second play of the game saw quarterback Brandon Mack run for a 24-yard touchdown only to have a holding penalty bring the score back as well. The third time was not the charm either, as a Buford’s 15-yard touchdown run was yet again called back for another holding penalty.

The fourth play, however, turned out to be the right one for the Commodores, who finally scored their first of many touchdowns on a 36-yard pass and catch from Mack to Buford. (September 10, 2012, Page 5B)

Lady Commodores roll to 2-4A semifinals

NEW ALBANY — The Tunica-Rosa Fort Lady Lions found out real quick Tuesday what a fruitless endeavor it is to try and run with the Lafayette Lady Commodores.
After playing with Lafayette for five minutes in the first game of the Division 2-4A Tournament at the New Albany High gym, the Lady Commodores quickly put together 22 unanswered points en route to a 65-44 victory. (February 8, 2012, Page 7)

New Albany uses its size to take down Lafayette

Lafayette’s basketball teams found out first hand Tuesday night that size really does matter on the court.

New Albany post players Jazmine Spears and Moses Kingsley each played huge roles in their team’s Region 2-4A victories at Lafayette, with the Lady Bulldogs winning 47-31 in the opener and the Bulldogs pulling out a 42-36 win in the nightcap. (more…) (January 25, 2012, Page 6)
