Better effort not enough to lift Rebels past No. 5 Tiger
A better overall effort one week after suffering the most disappointing loss in Houston Nutt’s tenure wasn’t enough to lift the Ole Miss Rebels past the No. 5 team in the country Saturday afternoon.
Every ounce of energy the Rebels could muster gave them three different leads against LSU in the second half, including two in the fourth quarter, but in the end it was the Tigers who had just enough energy to pull out a thrilling 43-36 win over the Rebels in front of a capacity crowd at Tiger Stadium and a national TV audience watching via CBS. Rebels, coaches pleased with improved execution
The ultimate goal for the Ole Miss Rebels heading into Saturday’s matchup with the No. 5 LSU Tigers at Tiger Stadium was to return to Oxford with a big upset win.
That didn’t work out for the Rebels against one of their biggest rivals, but the effort and overall execution of the team was much improved a week after suffering a disappointing loss at Tennessee.
Ole Miss finished the game with 420 total yards and scored points almost at will in the 43-36 loss. The defense was unable to hold the Tigers late in the game when it mattered most, but the unit didn’t give up a ton of explosive plays that have hindered them in other losses this year. Bolden continues to run well for Rebels
There were no bright spots to talk about for the Ole Miss offense in Saturday’s 52-14 loss to the Tennessee Volunteers at Neyland Stadium with the exception of the running of junior Brandon Bolden.
Bolden carried the ball 12 times for 113 yards and scored both of the team’s touchdowns in a game that was essentially decided by the start of the third quarter.
The two scores for Bolden raised his season total to 11 on the year and 20 in his career, while his rushing effort gave him five games of over 100 yards. (November 15, 2010, Page 2B)
Massie named SEC OL of the Week
It was just announced that Ole Miss sophomore right tackle Bobbie Massie was named the Southeastern Conference’s Offensive Lineman of the Week.

Strong second half leads to lopsided win
At times during Saturday’s game against Louisiana-Lafayette, the Ole Miss Rebels had flashbacks from their season opening loss to Jacksonville State.
That is, until the second half started.
Ole Miss came out of the stoppage and proceeded to shut out the visiting Ragin’ Cajuns en route to a 43-21 Homecoming victory in front of an announced crowd 53,144 at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. (November 8, 2010, Page 1B)

Tigers put on offensive clinic in win
Twenty-seven seconds into Saturday’s game at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt’s desire for his Rebels to upset the No. 1 team in the BCS Standings, the Auburn Tigers, looked pretty good.
Freshman running back Jeff Scott had just reeled off an 83-yard run down the Ole Miss sideline for a touchdown at that point and the fifth-largest crowd in stadium history of 61,474 was roaring with approval.
But just as quickly as Rebel fans could get into their “Yell O” rhythm on defense, Auburn was moving right back down the field to score the first of six touchdowns in an eventual 51-31 win.
Led by super-standout quarterback Cam Newton, the Tigers shredded the Rebels for 71 yards on six plays that first drive. Newton completed three straight passes to get across the 50-yard line, while running back Onterio McCalebb’s 15-yard run got the Tigers into the red zone.
Auburn coach Gene Chizik and offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn then sent a message to the Rebels about how the game would eventually play out as they sent Newton out wide to catch his first touchdown of the season. (November 1, 2010, Page 1B)
