Brandon Bolden

Return of the Mack: LHS QB earns another POW honor

It’s beginning to become a bit of a broken record, but Lafayette is positively OK with that.

During Friday’s 28-13 win at Lewisburg, LHS quarterback Brandon Mack did what has become expected of the super senior, rushing for 126 yards, passing for 115 and accounting for three touchdowns, all the while playing full-time on defense and special teams. (October 2, 2012, Page 7)

Rebels try to impress scouts at OM Pro Day

Just because they may be done suiting up in red and blue doesn’t necessarily mean several Ole Miss football players need to hang up their spikes.

Friday at the Indoor Practice Facility 12 Rebels ran, jumped, and lifted for 20 National Football League scouts in an attempt to either improve their draft stock, or, in the cases of some of the lesser-known prospects, catch the attention of a team. (more…) (March 12, 2012, Page 2B)

Manning, Glenn say hire not predetermined

Was Hugh Freeze a predetermined hire?

In large part because of his ties to Ole Miss and the Memphis area, the recent hire of Hugh Freeze as Ole Miss’ next football coach was met with an ample amount of skepticism.

Mike Glenn and Archie Manning, co-chairs of Ole Miss’ coaching search committee, said during Monday’s teleconference that they went through the proper channels during the interview process.

According to the co-chairs, Freeze just stood out above the rest of the field. Plain and simple. (December 6, 2011, Page 6)

Mistakes hurt Rebels in loss to Wildcats

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Ole Miss’ 2011 football season went from bad to worse Saturday afternoon thanks to another second-half letdown that led to a 30-13 win for the Kentucky Wildcats at Commonwealth Stadium.

In a game where the Rebels (2-7 overall, 0-6 in the Southeastern Conference) finally scored in the third quarter, and actually had a lead heading into the fourth, mistakes made in the final quarter proved costly. Ole Miss was outscored 20-0 in the fourth and after totaling 314 yards of offense in the first three quarters, the Rebels were held to just 78 yards the rest of the way. Third-quarter woes hurt Rebels again

AUBURN, Ala. — A week-long focus of starting the third quarter strong and finishing out a game that ultimately led to a win didn’t materialize as planned for the Ole Miss Rebels Saturday night at Auburn’s Jordan-Hare Stadium. (more…) (October 31, 2011, Page 1B)

Running game finally gets going at Auburn

AUBURN, Ala. — Ole Miss’ running game, and the results the coaches have not only wanted but expected to see most of the season, came alive in the first half of Saturday’s game against Auburn at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

Led by a healthy Brandon Bolden and Jeff Scott, the Rebels totaled 172 yards and two touchdowns on the ground in the first half, a season-high for a half in the rushing department. Ole Miss’ ability to move the ball on the ground helped slow Auburn’s offense, which had gotten off to a 14-0 start, and ultimately propelled the Rebels to a 17-17 tie at the half. (October 31, 2011, Page 1B)
