Oxford’s Blake does it all as Player of the Year

Describing what Brandon Blake meant to the Oxford Chargers on the hardwood this season can’t be accomplished in just a word or small phrase. His value to coach Drew Tyler and his teammates was all encompassing. His role always seemed to change from game to game. From being the team’s leading scorer to the team’s leading rebounder to leading the Chargers in assists, he simply did it all when called upon. (April 14, 2010, Page 1B)

Oxford’s Blake ready for next step

A chance to play college basketball the first year out of Oxford High at a small and inviting campus turned out to be too much of an opportunity for Brandon Blake to turn down. The OHS standout guard signed a scholarship ofer to play for NAIA Spring Hill today, ending a recruitment that really started to heat up towards the end of his senior season. (March 11, 2010, Page 7A)

Oxford-New Hope battle for 2-5A title

A decade’s worth of tradition for the Oxford Chargers and New Hope Trojans will be on display tonight in the Division 2-5A Tournament title game in Saltillo. The Chargers and Trojans have already made the 5A playoffs, but a win Friday makes the road to Jackson just that much easier because it ensures a home game. (February 12, 2010, Page Page 8A)

OHS defeats bigger West Point to advance

Oxford’s Chargers advanced in the Region 2-5A Tournament with a 77-52 win over West Point. The Chargers got balanced scoring to earn the victory, which advances them to a date with New Hope on Friday night in the tourney title game. The Lady Chargers’ season came to an end with a 48-46 loss. (February 10, 2010, Page Page 8)
