The Ole Miss baseball had a laundry list of who’s who being held out from this past weekend’s first intrasquad action.
Starting pitchers Bobby Wahl and Mike Mayers are being held out to rest after they each saw extensive time this summer pitching for Team USA and in the Cape Cod league respectively. (more…) (September 18, 2012, Page 7)
Years of experience at several different levels of baseball is what Oxford High coach Chris Baughman has added to his staff. Mike Thees, whose wife is Wendy, the Ole Miss head softball coach, has been hired by the school district to teach math next year and is awaiting school board approval on becoming a new assistant to Baughman.
Thees is currently volunteering his coaching expertise to the Chargers during the summer baseball season.
Most recently, Thees coached Ole Miss signee Brady Bramlett at Arlington (Tenn.) High School, and has been looking to get back into coaching after taking a year off, Baughman said. (June 12, 2012, Page 8)
Sunday felt like the perfect day to make it official.
After months of being courted by some of the top baseball programs in the country, and one day after pitching a scoreless first inning for the American squad in the Under Armor All-America Baseball Game at Wrigley field, elite pitching recruit Ty Hensley tweeted “It’s official… I’m an Ole Miss Rebel!!! #hottytoddy” prior to flying home from Chicago to Edmond, Okla.
At times this preseason the Ole Miss baseball Rebels have felt like they called Minneapolis home instead of Oxford.
Due to the recent southern blizzards that shut down local school districts for days at a time, the Rebels have had a difficult couple of weeks leading up to Friday’s season opener against Wright State. (more…) (February 14, 2011, Page 8A)
